Hey, I’m Hendrik de Wit, the face behind SlashCheckout.
As a kid, I found creative ways to earn some extra pocket money with some small business gigs. selling soda on hot summer days by the roadside or trading items on marktplaats.nl (the Dutch equivalent of eBay). Around the same time, I also discovered Photoshop on my brother’s computer and became hooked. I spent hours experimenting and learning, just for the fun of making something cool.
That passion for creativity led me to study media design, which gave me a way to explore creative work further. I started my career as a video editor, but eventually, I felt drawn to try something different. I started an e-commerce store, which grew to serve thousands of customers. While running the business was exciting, I realised I loved working on the creative side of it the most—designing the store, shaping the brand, and building the experience.
That creative focus caught the attention of others, who began asking me to help build their stores too. Over time, it became clear that working on Shopify stores combines everything I love: creativity, logical problem-solving, and helping businesses grow.
My approach is to strike the perfect balance between creating a visually engaging experience and optimising for conversions and average order value. I leverage smooth interactions, great typography, and unique layouts to build stores that truly stand out.
